The Queen of Summer

The Queen of Cups
Is the Queen of Summer
Her stillness lies within
When sun blazes hot
Her inner calm
Cools, a northern breeze
The Queen of Cups
Is the Queen of Hearts
Leading by example
The way to cool
When life blazes hot.

Taking my own advice - another 4 of swords kind of day

It's yet another 4 of swords kind of day - week - potentially month.

Be flexible or break. Just roll with it as it comes. Or like Taoist and marital artist Bruce Lee said, "be like water".

That is why I want to focus on e-mail readings this summer. Not only is it my specialty, and available without an appointment... I set the price lower because they are more flexible & convenient for both of us!

If you are interested in getting a tarot reading at all, please give an e-mail reading a try. You'll save both time and money...and still get the exact same reading you would get in person! And I can adjust when I do the reading a few minutes here or there so I can  put full focus on your reading, and do the absolute best for you that I can.

I'm taking my own advice for the next several weeks, drawing from the four of swords...I'm being flexible, focusing on e-mail readings - which is a good deal for everyone.

Poetry Quote

Was privileged to do tarot readings with a whole room full of wise, wonderful warrior women last night. This poem came up in the conversation. It is a good one, well worth thinking about - just as it is worth living life to the fullest at any age. (accessed via www.poemhunter.com)

Warning

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Shelflight: Book Love, with quotes

Sometimes sheer coincidence can turn profound, and turn your world upside down...in a nice way.

Stumbled onto the "Modern Witch" series on amazon.com, then discovered Debora Geary's other books...and it was book-love at first read. On the surface, her books easy, fun read, brain candy, and entertainment. Goes down smoooooooth. I know, I know, I've raved and reviewed her books like crazy, and unless you are a fan too...you're probably sick of hearing about it. Just finished "Witchlight: Witches Under Way" late last night...and have another pent up fan-girl rant to vent in your direction

Another layer down, and you see real writing skill. Her characters are deep, complex, real, and downright lovable. I have to keep reminding myself they are just fiction. Her characters are so complex, so relate-able, so well-developed, it is easy to find a little of yourself (or someone you know) in her characters. It is a heady, empowering thing to find that kind of association with a loving, accepting, couragous, wise and delightful community of witches. If you've ever for one minute wanted to be a witch as a little girl, like Tabatha on "Bewitched" with her "wishcraft"...then this stuff is irresistable.

There is more here than just good characters. Story pace, crisis and resolution...all that technical stuff that makes for truly memorable, get-in-your-head-and-heart story telling is right there....in spades.

At the heart of it all is the element that turns great fiction into art and literature. Her writing touches emotion, psyche and mythos. She shows us self-discovery, self-acceptance, personal growth, the love of a parent for their children, respect , responsibility, love, generosity, fun, romance, courage, wisdom, community, and much more. The very best of all is the way she shows us the very real magic in our very real everyday world. She shows us the Earth magic in a pot of spaghetti sauce, the Fire magic in a knitted baby blanket, the Air and Water magic in a walk in a summer rain...and the mind witchery of writing, poetry, and just being a good friend.

The icing on the cake is shared pop culture references. Any group of people who eats that much Ben & Jerry's is OK in my book. She mentions Firefly - and then has Aervyn and Melvin essentially come to the conclusion that "wisdom [is] shiny". Yes, Browncoats - I think she means it exactly that way. Which makes her the best writers in the 'verse in my opinion.

"The trick is to find passions that fuel your soul" - Debora Geary

"Shelflight" is a series of posts where I highlight something that seems cool,  is interesting, or has been inspiring or helpful in my little geek world. It's all just my opinion, and I'm not compensated for any of my fan-girl ravings.

Q&A: Where can we have a happy marriage?

Q: We like where we live now, but my husband has better job offers in two different places. We've decided we want to make the move for the promotion. They are both pretty equal job offers, so it has come down to location for us, but we can't decide between xxxxxx, where the housing costs are better than here (we could get out from under our mortgage) but the weather is hot and humid, and we both hate that. The other offer is in zzzzzz, but the housing there costs a little bit more, but the weather is just gorgeous  We really can't decide between the two, can the cards offer any guidance? Where can we go that would give us a happy marriage in the years to come?

A: Hello ******.

Let's look at this with a simple yes/no reading...but before we start I have to say this...

It doesn't matter one tiny bit where you live. It looks to me like the heart of your question is wanting to keep a happy marriage...that happens in your heart, not in where you live.

You can live anywhere in the universe, and be happy with a happy marriage. If the relationship is good, it will be good in a shack in the middle of a swamp. If the relationship is in trouble, then it would be troubled in a free mansion in paradise.

Also, before pulling the yes/no cards...think about the criteria you already mentioned...cost and weather. Which of those two things is more important AND which of those two things will affect your happiness the most? Is hot an humid going to wear on you over the years or will money concerns be a bigger strain?

PLUS don't forget, nothing is permanent...if you get somewhere, and don't like it, you can move again. Instead of buying right away, why not rent a while to see if you like the area? What other things besides mortgage and weather would make you happy where you live? What do you want to avoid? Maybe it would help this decision to expand your list of pros and cons. If you consider lots of things, it might be easier to see which location has the more plus - things and which has more minus - things.

..and also lift the burden of permanence. Stay mobile, and wait to tie in to a mortgage once you are sure it is the right place for you. That way you can make your decision about where you want to live based on something other than the weather... like lifestyle, recreation, taxes, schools (if that applies), career opportunities etc etc

So leaving marriage and happiness totally out of it (that part is up to you two, no matter where you live)...

"Should ****** and spouse move to zzzzzzz"... (one ace, two minor arcana cards)leaning toward no...this is the patter of you COULD...but SHOULD you? Things to consider here is balance, and clear-thinking. Would you lifestyle here pull things out of balance? Would you have to work such long hours to afford the house that other parts of your life would suffer? Are you seeing this area as it really is? Or do you have an idealized real estate booklet and tourist attraction sort of impression of this place?

"Should ******* and spouse move to xxxxxxx"?... (two aces and a minor arcana card) leaning yes...the drawback might be that it will take some daring and mental toughness to make it work. It may be rocky at the start, but you can overcome the challenges. It may feel like you made the wrong choice to begin, but be brave, and you will be rewarded in surprising ways, personal growth, awakening, happiness ways...in time, if you have courage. There is great potential for spiritual lessons and soul-satisfaction here, independent of finances.

I hope that helps the decision making process along for you. Good Luck!

The Yoi of Fall

Just finished the first Saturday of our Fall schedule. Yoi. And double Yoi.

Copped out on the supper thing, and we are feasting on tasty but nutritionally bankrupt things with a side of (unsweetened) fruit juice as the only saving grace.

Am kicked back checking the e-mail on the webbernet machine, and finally caught Alton Brown on the Nerdist channel (holy geeky nirvana!). Color me an official "dork fork" fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZhSzLx5eBg.

A.B. is a Whovian....triple extra bonus genius points for him in my book (just not this one)

While snarfing my piping hot pizza nuggets, gave some thought to the Fall schedule. It never turns out the way I planned, but you have to start SOMEPLACE...so here is the skeleton of the thing, subject, as is everything in life, to change:

Q&A: DIY

Q. Are those do it yourself online computer tarot readings valid?

A. It depends on what you mean by "valid". The answer could be yes or no, depending on how you look at readings in general.

If by "valid" you mean "accurate predictions", then the answer is no. The computer readings can't read minds, tell what is in someone else's heart, or predict what others will choose or what will happen any better than a human reader can.

When you get right down to it, tarot cards are just a tool. The important thing isn't those little pieces of cardboard with the pretty pictures...the important thing is the spirit of the person looking at them. Whether that person is you...or someone else looking on your behalf...tarot cards, palm lines, tea leaves, rune stones or what-have-you are all just tools...a spring-board that helps us access the intuition within. That intuition, in turn, is guidance, not predictions. Long story short: Tarot cards, no matter whether they are paper or electronic, are just a way to help us solve problems and make better choices. Those choices in turn create a better future, rather than predict some imposed fate outside of ourselves.

In that way of looking at things, then yes, electronic tarot "DIY" readings are just as valid as if you drew physical cards for yourself. Either way, paper or virtual, the cards are just a spark to help you access your own inner wisdom, understanding and intuition.

Make sense?

FAQ - why don't you do psychic medical readings or take madical questions?

Have a GENERAL question about how psychics, intuitives, Tarot or other oracles work? Send them to:

faq@modern-oracle-tarot.com

Your question will be answered in a reply e-mail and as a blog entry. The blog answer will be in the archives for your future reference - all blog Q & A is anonymous and will not identify you. NO personal questions or reading requests will be answered from this mailbox.

Here is an example from my KINDLE blog:

Q: Why don't you do medical readings?

A: Remember that old saying “Jack of all trades, master of none?”

There is a little bit of specialization in any profession. Some car mechanics have a knack for transmissions, while others have a talent for electrical systems. Some fashion designers work in chocolate, others work for J.C. Penny….you get the idea.

The psychic world has its specialities too. Some of us are mediums, and can communicate with crossed over loved ones very easily. Some psychics work with criminal cases, some don't. Some are very flamboyant for people who need drama to hear their message. Some of us are more no-nonsense for those who need a low key approach to be comfortable.

Medical readings is one of those specialties. Ironically, I don’t do medical readings because I have a strong medical background. If if someone asks that sort of question I automatically click out of “intuition mode” and go right into "clinical-logic mode". For example I am often asked if a couple will get pregnant soon or the gender of the baby if someone is expecting. CLICK! My first thought is about serum hcgs, and sonograms and all sorts of nice scientific stuff.

Sometimes a distinct physical sensation comes to attention during a reading (see mud vs marinade part 2 to see what I mean by “attention”)…if that happens, I will describe it to the person exactly as I get the sensation with NO medical interpretation. At the very most, I’ll just in a very general way ask them to please take good care of their health and consult a health professional for any physical concerns .

Which begs the question…do I think medical readings are valid?

When it comes to health and medicine, I am Holistic through and through. I think the person’s intuition about their health has a strong place in their health care…like the person who feels something is wrong, even if modern science can’t find anything, or a person who on a deep level knows they need a different treatment…all of that is absolutely valid in my opinion.

But should a person be diagnosed or treated according to a “psychic” diagnosis or reading? Personally, I don’t buy it - even if it wasn't illegal to diagnose and practice medicine without a license.

After working with cards since 1992, and doing hundreds and hundreds of readings over time…the intuitive information is just too symbolic and personalized to be useful in consistent, trustworthy medical way. The best way to use intuition in medicine is to:

  1. follow your own intuition about your health. If you think something isn’t right, keep talking, keep asking questions, keep learning until you find an answer. If you keep getting the same answer over and over, though, you might want to re-think and check for denial. Denying a problem doesn’t make it go away. Listen to your heart. You’ll know when other people are right too….
  2. keep a healthy spirituality in conjunction with a healthy mind and body. Psychic readings is a wonderful tool for that…to learn and grow as a person, as well as expressing your spiritual beliefs.

Carolyn Myss works as a medical psychic. You can read more about this topic in her books. I tend to take some of her work with a grain of salt, admittedly. This is just my opinion, but her books seem to try SO hard to make her intuitive work acceptable to the Judeo-Christian mainstream that she looses her real message in the process. I’ve never met her individually…that is just my perception of her first couple of books.

Of course THE person to study would be Edgar Cayce. His volume of work is huge..I don’t know his accuracy or success rate, but he is by reputation the authority when it comes to such things. If you want to learn more about medicine, health and psychics, you might want to start withhttp://www.edgarcayce.org.

They know much more on the issue of medical psychics than I can offer you here.

Thanks for your question!
