Today's Tarot: 3 of Wands

Inner understanding and perception:

Shakespeare said that "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". Call a skunk a rose, and it still stinks the same - but the skunk sure feels better about themselves. Sometimes words matter, sometimes they are just hair-splitting semantics. It pays to know when is which, so as to choose words well to help and heal.

The Queen of Summer

The Queen of Cups
Is the Queen of Summer
Her stillness lies within
When sun blazes hot
Her inner calm
Cools, a northern breeze
The Queen of Cups
Is the Queen of Hearts
Leading by example
The way to cool
When life blazes hot.

Today's Tarot - The World

It is necessary for the world to be enormous, enormously diverse, even a little bit frightening. How else could it be both classroom and playground for something as wondrous as the whole human race?

Today's Tarot - 4 of Swords

"It is what it is"...let go of expectations, stay flexible, roll with it, allow...let go of expectations and specifics, not dreams. Allow the highest and best to come to you in its own way and in its own time. Welcome dreams, hopes, manifestation, fulfillment and magic as-is...not make demands of them.
Welcome. and Allow the good things to happen.

Today's Tarot - Ace of Cups

Originally published in 2011:
If there is wholeness (and I believe there is), then we touch the same spark as the greatest minds and spirits that have ever lived.
If you need to balance the checkbook, remember you are part of the same universe as Nelson Rockefellar and the legend of King Midas. If you have a difficult problem to solve, remember you are part of the same whole as Einstein and Newton. If you need wisdom, you walk the same earth as did Confucious, and Lau Tzu.  If you see suffering in others or feel it yourself, this is the same place of being as Mother Theresa, the Dali Lama, and millions of unsung heros who do simple kindnesses every day.
On the artwork of the of the Raider White Tarot deck, it shows a dove bringing a wafer to an overflowing water chalice. That reminds me of our connection to the wholeness, the entirety of space, time and dimensions. A very comforting notion.
When we are part of everything, our cup is full.

Today's Tarot - The Chariot

The first step to being comfortable within your skin is to know the shape of it. Socrates said "know thyself", which is the first step toward accept thyself, and respect thyself.

Today's Tarot - The Hermit

In addition to saying "I drank what?" Socrates is credited with the timeless advice "Know Thyself".

Difficult advice to follow sometimes. I've often thought of meditation as staring at oneself square in the soul. Self-examination and self-knowledge isn't always pretty. Seems we all like to flatter ourselves to one extent or another. Self-confidence and self-esteem are pretty much essential to be successful in the modern world.

On the other hand, a little understanding of those gears between your ears can be pretty useful too.

The Hermit card hints at one aspect of modern culture: introversion vs extroversion. Some people are energized by a party. Some people enjoy them, but in measured doses. Some people like bars and nightclubs. Other people like a vente skinny latte at the local coffee house. Or when you get to be my age, a good old fashioned nap sounds pretty good too.

It isn't for us to judge other's enjoyment or energy levels. Our job is to know ours: "Know Thyself". If you are energized by being around other people, community activity, then find that. There are positive, good-judgment ways to do that. Being social doesn't have to mean a holiday bar crawl. If quiet and alone time feeds your soul, then make time for that.

A wise hermit knows when to be alone, sit on the mountain and meditate, and when to have a cup of tea in the village with friends. "Know Thyself" and you posses that wisdom too.

Today's Tarot - Ace of Swords

Personal growth and spiritual awakening is a warrior's enterprise. If you dare grow, you lose the person you once were, maybe more. You could loose it all - but gain everything. Awaking takes courage, and is worth every bit.

Today's Tarot - The Wheel

"There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands" - Richard Back

"Every cloud has a silver lining" - proverb

A wheel shows us everything is connected - when the front part of the wheel goes down, the back goes up, and the car moves forward. If you tap the hub, the rim vibrates too. Up and Down, tragedy and triumph, yin and yang, are all always with us. Like a hurricane, the calmest most comfortable place to be is the center, where you can see both ups and downs. When you are buffeted by one, you can remember the other and take heart that all will balance in the end.

Today's Tarot - Knight of Coins

Don't let your expectations cloud your perception. Sometimes things are not what they seem, sometimes they are exactly what they seem to be. Intuition can be a big help in telling the difference.
