The Hanged man 15 Dec 2010

Some ideas are worth repeating, I suppose. If an old idea comes around again, it must be for a reason, so here it is, for you, for whatever it is worth. That's for you to decide.

The first word that comes to mind is connotations.

Connotations of words...the subtle shades of flavor...is the backbone of poetry, and, in many ways of psychic work too.

Think of your gut-level, knee-jerk reaction to the word "retreat" or "avoid"

Now think of your response to "sanctuary" "respite" or "vacation"...all fairly related, when you get down to the basic function. It is all about going from one place to another...all about getting away from something. But the subtle meaning hints at the why, the hidden dynamic.

The same is true of the Hanged Man. For some "stagnation" is something to be changed or avoided. "Rest" "pause" or "respite" is similar in some ways...but it all hints to duration and context. "One man's stuck in the mud is another man's day at the spa". Some have been stagnant too long and need to move. Stagnation is death, in many ways. In a driven person, the rest is the message still...but as a needed thing, not something that needs ending.

So when you are reading tarot cards, how do you know which subtle meaning to use? Feeling, co-ordinating the meaning of the card with the context of other intuitive information.

Today's daily meditation, as they all are, is up to you. Think of the hanged man, IF it has a message for you, what is it relative to your other hunches, your feelings and the context. If there is much left undone, and you are stuck, not growing, not learning, not moving or living...the message is clear. Time to cut yourself loose and get moving again. If you are feeling driven into the ground, stressed to the max, perhaps the advice is to relax, and 'hang out' for a while.

Taoist believe the wisest sage is like a mirror, showing people what they are, as they are...and in so doing show the perfect lesson, give the perfect advice. Tarot, oracle, psychic work can be the same way through connotations and subtle flavors of their symbolic language.
