Soulmates and Psychics, Love and Destiny

Q. My problem is that i want to forget some of the predictions psychics have given me (i used to ask a lot). I know you would say the future is unpredictable. But some predictions did come true. That's why i am so sad, because not all of the predictions were so positive(about love) I'm not sure if they were really gifted psychics or not.
I want to know if, maybe,  i have the ability to make my love life the way i want it? I know relationships depend on both partners--so does that mean that i'll probably not have the relationship turn out the way I want? (well i am not saying that i am selfish, i 'll take care of my partner too) I want to make a right choice for my future husband...can i really do this?
one psychic even told me that i have destroyed all positive things in my destiny because i asked too many questions about the future.


Please just give me some advice about how to cope with all this. Thank you.




A. You are living proof of why I believe predictions are not just impossible, but HARMFUL.


Sometimes so-called predictions catch a glimpse of what is probable and seem to come true just through probabilities, math, and logical insight. My guess is that through the things you said (or subtle body-language clues if it was an in-person reading) the psychic could see the path you were on, and how your mind was already set, and just confirmed the decisions you had already made. Predictions that say the most likely thing to happen - the most probable outcome - often do come true by means of pure statistics.


Other times, predictions come true through "self-fulfilling prophecy". By planting an idea in your head, by convincing you that a particular outcome is inevitable, a "prediction" causes you to either consciously give in or unconsciously act to cause the "prediction" to come true.


Romance questions are tricky at best, because it involves two people. We have no right to look at your potential future partner's feelings, choices and concerns without their permission. Like I tell everyone...think of how it would feel to have the shoe on the other foot. How would you feel if some psychic that you don't know anything about went rummaging around in your mind and heart for what YOU were going to do or how YOU felt about someone? It is a c creepy, and very violating to think about. I won't do it. I have a hard time respecting anyone who says they can and will do that kind of reading. One of my teachers did tell me about "etheric permission"...the significant other can give permission to participate in the reading, and volunteer to share their feelings on a etheric or soul-level, even if they don't give actual physical permission. While I have had that happen on some very very rare occasions...I will never never ever read a person that hasn't given permission, and will only trust that "etheric permission" if it is extremely crystal-clear.

What that one psychic said about your destiny and questions about the future is kind of true on one level...but absolutely ridiculous nonsense on another. Let me explain...


Relying too much on psychic predictions is a terrible idea. You can't grow, learn, or take control over your own life. By giving your personal power and decision-making over to someone else sets you on a path to learn some very difficult and very important life lessons...and learn them the hard way. So in that sense, asking for predictions and taking them to heart really does suck the life right out everything and it may SEEM  that you have "destroyed all positive things". BUT what they didn't tell you is you can restore your destiny...you can CHANGE, you can LEARN, you can START making better choices, you can STOP relying on "predictions", and even get readings less often. Ted Andrews, whose writings I totally, totally respect and recommend, suggests only getting readings once or twice a year, or better still only when really needed. 


I make no predictions...but my advice is to read those posts, and use the tools there to take matters into your own hand...and your own heart. The best way to attract love is to give love. To find a loving person, be a loving person. 


Let your light shine. Only YOU can make you happy...not a husband, not a lover, and certainly not a psychic.

Ever play with that trick of eyesight? Close one eye, and hold up a pencil so it lines up with an object in the distance. Then switch eyes and the pencil seems to jump to one side. Things don't line up the same way.

In astronomy, this is called parallax. In anatomy this phenomenon where the brain combines two slightly different views from two slightly different viewpoint gives us depth perception...it allows us to see distance. Two eyes lets us live in three dimensions. It helps us to not walk into objects and learn our environment the hard way.

A similar idea is true in Tarot and psychic work. Getting a reading isn't predicting the future...it is getting a second look, a separate viewpoint that lets us see with greater clarity and understanding. It helps us be a bit more perceptive, and not have to do every little thing the hard way.

Two third-eyes are better than one.

Even those of us who do readings will sometimes GET one to improve our understanding, fill in any blind spots.

I like to think of psychics consulting psychics, and doing formal tarot readings for ourselves is a bit like binocular vision...two views that can be fused together into a higher quality, more useful vision. It is a bit like the very large array of radio telescopes made famous in the movie "Contact"...each person, psychic or not, has their own individual "radar"...their intuition. When we communicate with another antenna, it gives a result that is like having a dish as large as the distance between them...put alot together and you have one giant telescope!

If one eye is closed, then depth perception doesn't work. If one telescope is down, the array doesn't work as well. We each bring our part to a reading. You bring your insight too. Working together, we double our view. Depending on a psychic, or a reading to "predict" the future, or what will happen is third-eye-blind. And I don't mean the music group. 

Work together, by combining your knowing and insight with the reading, taking responsibility for your actions and decisions...working with the psychic that way, you can see farther into the cosmos.

Doctor Who quote and psychic predictions

Anglophenia blog on BBC America has a great post of Doctor Who quotes for the New Year...got to love that! This is one I particularly like because it says, in another way, much of my philosophy about time and psychic predictions...

THAT is why I think predictions are for fun at the very most...Psychic tarot readings, even the ones that seem to make predictions, are just ideas and signposts to help you navigate forward through life...your future is YOURS to create, not for another person to predict.

If the mind becomes what it dwells upon, what would you have your mind...and life...become?

Would you have your thoughts drawn down the narrow path of another person's "predictions" or be shown a universe of possibilities? Would you give your thoughts over to an uncertain pronouncement, or set it free on a playground of ideas where your heart and mind can find its own truth?

True Tarot opens the mind to what is possible. It does not trap thoughts in a net of inevitability and prediction.

Alice, Twilight and the Ace of cups

Twilight reflects another thing very well… the way everyone depends on Alice’s visions and the minor meltdown that happens when she and Jasper….well, I won’t spoil that bit…

Real world psychic readings are like that in a way…it is so easy to depend on readings rather than take responsibility. I’ve ranted for YEARS about how it is a matter of choice and personal responsibility…NOT fate, time or predictions….yet all the time people still ask when they’ll get pregnant and if their boyfriend will come back to them…

The truth is, we don’t need to rely on readings, to obsess over them. They are guides, signposts…but they are not the path OR the one walking it…

We don’t need to rely on Alice because in reality, there is a little Alice in all of us.

Today’s card is the Ace of Cups: it’s traditional meaning is “inner light”. The meditation that comes with it is “we are all psychic”

As a general rule, barring age and physical debility exceptions, everyone can drink from a cup. We all have intuition, and we all can access it one way or another.

So why are some more sought out? Why are there the “Alice”s of this world?

My opinion is that it is right hemisphere access…the corpus collosium for all you science geeks out there. We all have a right hemisphere to our brain. We all have intuition…some of us can bring that information over to our language centers and communicate it a little better than others.

Everyone can drink from a cup, but some can describe the wine inside a little better than others.

It may not be your talent, your passion to read for others, but you CAN follow your own intuition.

You may not be able to wax poetic over what you taste, but you CAN drink from the cup of psychic ability.

You may not be able to see trackers and hordes of vampires, but there is a little Alice inside all of us letting us know what path to take.

I'd be willing to bet that most of the players on the Super Bowl field had played pickup games of football as kids, just for fun.

It is innate to life on earth. Kids learn by playing. So do tiger kits and chimpanzee babies. Tarot and psychic development can be the same way, even for adults.

Think of the learning that we can unleash on fun. At first glance, scoring in tennis is bizarre. But people learn it, for no other reason than it is fun. Think about video games. We learn the controls, tricks, cheats and hidden items without a second thought because it is fun.

Predictions aren't how psychics work...it's how psychics play.

Predictions are ridiculously improbable. Think of the web of choices and circumstances involved in a football game. Each coach and team plans ahead of time. There are snap decisions and trained reflexes in executing those plans. Wind, weather, fan noise...all play a tiny part, like the butterfly wing in Africa that causes the hurricane on the other side of the world...it all webs together to what we call a win or loss. With all of that at play... literally ... moving, weaving, in fluid changes..."accurate predictions" are dumb luck in picking up the right thread of probable outcomes, not something inherent to how intuition works. Intuition helps us navigate through out own web of probabilities to where we want to take our future...not a vision of certainty of other peoples decisions.

So what does that have to do with the super bowl? It lets psychics play. There are reasons why magic 8 balls are in the toy isle. It's fun. It's diversion. So are making predictions.

Sometimes a friend of mine, who is also a working psychic, will make "predictions" about major sports events. Neither of us particularly follow major league sports...well, other than hockey, and she doesn't even do that. It is just fun to see if we can 'predict' the outcome and point spread. She called the colts. I said less than a touchdown. So on one level we blew it. But were we "wrong"...no. It was intended for fun, and to "exercise" our intuitive muscles, so to speak. In that respect it worked totally! We had a laugh, and no harm done.

If you want to play along...give it a try. Before a game...I suggest just a few hours before the game...more decisions have been made, more probability waves collapsed by that point...make your "prediction". If you follow the sport, set aside what you know of records, injuries, past matchups and all the other logical bits that can get in the way of your intuition. The REALLY hard part is setting aside wishful thinking...set aside who you hope will win (that's why I don't make hockey predictions...too many opinions and wishes in the way...I repeat, Let's Go Pens!). Then close your eyes, relax, and let the winner come to you 'out of the ethers' as they say.

Some may use tarot cards, or other oracles to make this prediction. That's cool. Magic 8 balls are part of the same universal whole as you, your team, and the game being played. Tarot cards, Magic 8 balls, tea leaves...it is all just tools to help you reach your own good intuition. Or in this case, they are toys to let your own good intuition come out to play.

Whatever technique you use...cards, flipping a coin, rock paper scissors, gut feeling, or just letting the winning team come to mind...the important thing is to get a feel for how the information comes to you. To learn to listen to you play and imagination. What we call imagination is another way for intuition to speak to us. It can be direct, or through tools and toys like tarot cards.

Most important of all, relax, PLAY with intuition, then you can better learn to navigate with it, and learn from it.
